The Club Finals weekend kicked off with the ....MIXED PAIRS .... Late on Friday afternoon the Final of the Mixed Pairs took place between last years winners .... Arthur & Chloe Elliott against Dave Merrett and Sandra Throup. Nothing much in the game for the first few ends 4 -3 to Dave & Sandra. On the sixth end with his last wood and holding three Arthur pushed the oppositions wood in for shot so instead of 7 -6 it was 9 -3.  The Elliotts never really recovered from that plus that Sandra was having an excellent game and not giving the Elliotts a chance to score more than the odd single. With Dave Merrett backing Sandra up with some good positional bowls they ran out comfortable winners 20 -9. Well done.
LADIES TWO WOOD .... Contested between experienced bowler and previous winner Marilyn Wear against "New" bowler Mary Lyes. Marilyn's experience helped her and she built up a useful lead over the first few ends which in Two Wood games is a major advantage. Mary made a very spirited comeback but unfortunately ran out of ends and Marilyn came through 19 -10. Good game girls well played. Mary is one to watch for the future !!
Day Two of the Finals Weekend. Four games were planned and the weather was perfect.
Drawn on Rink 1 was the Club Plate contested by Ron Smale and Gordie Powell. A game full of surprises and no clear winner until the final end. Ron came out of the blocks quicker than Gordie and took a 6 - 2 lead. Gordie then came into the game and established a useful lead 6 -10. Back came Ron to lead 13 -12. Two ends later 15 all. Then a run of scoring by Ron which included a 4 on the last end gave Ron the title 21 -15. Well done boys super game.
Next on Rink 2 was the Mens Club Pairs. Bob Murray and Dave Cook were defending their title against Father and Son Arthur & Lee Elliott. A commanding performance by Bob and Dave over the first 10 ends ..... 16 - 4 meant that it was going to be difficult for the Elliotts to recover and so it proved. Although they fought hard the game finished with Bob & Dave winning 24 -9. Many congratulations boys on defending your title . Three in a row next year ?
